The FCI Manager Phase-I exam will be administered online and will be of the Objective kind (Multiple Choice Questions). The preliminary test has a total time limit of 60 minutes for candidates to complete. All portions are timed separately, with each section lasting 20 minutes. It is divided into three portions, each with 100 questions and a maximum score of 100 points.

For the job of Manager (General / Depot / Movement / Accounts / Technical / Civil Engineering / Electrical Mechanical Engineering), there are 120 multiple choice questions on reasoning, data analysis, computer awareness, general awareness, management, and current affairs for the Paper 1 and only 90 minutes are given. Candidates for the position of FCI Manager must complete a six-month training program. A Management Trainee will receive a monthly stipend of INR 40,000 for the next six months.

After completing the course, these Management Trainees will be promoted to Manager and will be paid on the IDA pay scale of INR 40,000 to INR 1,40,000.
